Firebirds Partner with OAL to Provide Certified Athletic Trainer Coverage at Bantam and Midget Games

The Lancaster Firebirds have partnered with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster to provide Certified Athletic Trainer (CAT) coverage for all Bantam and Midget home games during the 2017-18 season.

"The LYCAHL Board of Directors felt strongly that in keeping with its mission of providing a safe playing environment for our players, games involving body-checking (14U, 16U and 18U) should have properly trained personnel in attendance to provide immediate response to any injury situation", stated Vice President - Hockey, Andy Scott.  He went on to explain, "In junior hockey (16-20 year-olds) it is a standard requirement for a CAT to be in attendance at games.  It just makes good sense to have that same level of coverage at youth games where there is body-checking.  In the event of a potentially serious injury, the response is immediate, rather than having to wait for EMS personnel to be dispatched.  It also removes the need for coaches to make a call on potential concussions."

The Firebirds organization plans to make CAT coverage at all Bantam and Midget games a standard part of the club's operations in coming seasons.
